Welcome Prof. Hengrui Liang being the New Associate Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Medical Artificial Intelligence

The editorial office of Journal of Medical Artificial Intelligence is pleased to announce that, effective February 1st, 2026, Prof. Hengrui Liang will become the new Associate Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Medical Artificial Intelligence.

Prof. Hengrui Liang is an Attending Surgeon and Distinguished Professor (Nanshan Scholar) at Guangzhou Medical University. He earned his Bachelor of Clinical Medicine from Nanshan College, his Master's degree in Thoracic Surgery from the 1st Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, and his Ph.D. in Oncology from Guangzhou Medical University and the Guangzhou National Laboratory. His research primarily focuses on constructing a comprehensive, AI-driven "screening-diagnosis-treatment-rehabilitation" clinical system for lung cancer to improve patient outcomes. He actively works to overcome "data silos" and clinical application barriers by developing federated learning frameworks and multi-task AI foundation models. Prof. Liang has authored 70 SCI articles as the first or corresponding author in prestigious journals, including The Lancet Digital HealthNature Biomedical EngineeringJAMA Internal Medicine, and Nature Communications. His innovative contributions have earned him numerous prestigious scientific awards, including the 2025 ESTS-AATS Foundation Excellence Award, the 2024 Chinese Anti-Cancer Association Science and Technology First Prize, and the 2019 AATS Training Fellowship. Prof. Liang is a Fellow of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) and the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS), as well as a member of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC). Additionally, he has completed prestigious fellowships in Thoracic Surgery at Duke University and the University of Zurich.
